In 1976, a group of citizen’s raised enough funds to build eight lighted tennis courts in the City of Coldwater. During the courts 40 year lifespan, various maintenance efforts have been performed to preserve a suitable playing condition. Unfortunately, the time has come when crack filling/resurfacing will no longer be effective. The future of Coldwater Tennis now resides in the complete reconstruction of the existing courts.
The commitment of $200,000 from both the City of Coldwater and Coldwater Community Schools ($400,000 total) has already been announced, and will serve as the foundation for the construction of the 10 new post-tension concrete courts. An overall fundraising goal of $800,000 has been established to purchase new lighting, fencing, and an endowment for future maintenance.
For the past month, a group of local community members have teamed up to help organize project details, develop a fundraising platform and promote awareness throughout the developmental process. The plan is to reach the overall goal by January 31, 2016, in order to meet the anticipated six week long construction period scheduled for this summer.
The opportunity to give back to a community asset that has touched the lives of many is now. For more information about the project, as well as fast and easy online donating, visit www.BrCoFoundation.org/ColdwaterTennis.
