At their December meeting the Branch County Community Foundation Youth Advisory Council (YAC) presented $491.18 worth of gifts to the residents of the Branch County Coalition Against Domestic Violence. YAC members purchased the gifts, wrapped them and delivered them to 5 families. Items included ingredients to bake Christmas cookies and gifts for each child. YAC members also purchases gift cards for youth to those that live in Teen Share.
YAC allocated a portion of their annual grant dollars for the project. Kim Hemker, director of the Branch County Coalition Against Domestic Violence said, “We were so appreciative of the donations to the families of the Shelterhouse, Laura’s Place and Teenshare that the YAC teens brought us the week before Christmas.”
YAC seeks to identify and address youth issues in the community and is dedicated to effective fund development, and youth empowerment, and grantmaking. Anyone ages 12-21 is welcome to apply for YAC membership. The only criteria are commitment to attending meetings and participating in YAC events and a love for and desire to serve your community. YAC meetings are held monthly. Those Youth interested in applying can visit BCCF’s website www.brcofoundation.org and click on the YAC tab to retrieve a copy of the application. Branch County and Colon youth are welcome to apply. Applications are accepted from January 1 until March 31 each year.
