The Branch County Literacy Council (BCLC) is a non-profit volunteer organization that began in 1986 as a grassroots effort to address the problem of illiteracy in our area. It is estimated that 16% of adults living in Branch County are functionally illiterate. BCLC is dedicated to enhancing the lives of non-literate adults through free one-on-one tutoring programs designed to develop reading, writing and spelling skills. It is our goal to enrich the quality of life and increase economic opportunities for these individuals through improved literacy skills. We take a foundational approach with our participants, tailoring their individual lessons to help them achieve their personal goals.
